Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is:

"A system of myofascial evaluation, treatment and movement retraining
techniques to relieve soft tissue (muscle, tendon, fascia and skin)  pain, and
to return the individual to full mobility and function."

ANYONE CAN PRES ON A MUSCLE, BUT KNOWING WHY TO PRESS,
WHERE TO PRESS AND EXACTLY HOW TO PRESS DEFINES TRUE
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY.

This brings up the question,  what is a trigger point? A trigger point is an
irritable tight spot in a taut band of skeletal muscle. Often this is what you
are feeling when you have a "knot" in your muscle that is tender and sore.
This is different from an acu-point which is based in Asian bodywork theory
and is based on Chi and meridians.

A trigger point is a well documented medically researched area and often
cause referred pain, that is, pain or sensation often some distance away from
the actual tight spot in the dysfunctional muscle.
